How hard is it to change fuel filter located in gas tank?

I have a 1999 GMC Safari van that I think needs a new fuel filter. Can I possibly do it myself ???How hard is it to change fuel filter located in gas tank?
..............i believe you are refering to the FUEL STRAINER which is located at the base of your fuel pump module (located in the tank) to replace this item (which is PART OF THE MODULE ) it will be nessasary to empty and drop the tank...(not a fun job).........IF YOUR TALKING ABOUT THE FUEL FILTER.....it is usually mounted outside the tank in the main line going to the engine. How hard is it to change fuel filter located in gas tank?
on most of the vans there is an access panel located under the carpet in the rear just above the tank you can access the fuel pump and all from there
The fuel tank has to be lowered (remove). You also have to make sure that it doesn't catch fire.

Can you do it yourself? Possibly.

Good Luck...
ITS A PRETTY HARD JOB. NOTHINGS IMPOSSIBLE THO
the filter should be along the frame.
That vehicle should have a filter under the vehicle, just rearwards of the driver's door. The ';filter ';in the tank is just a strainer for the fuel pump inlet, and very VERY rarely clogs.
The local Cadillac / Buick Dealership has a big pile of used gas tanks outside the service door. When I asked about them, I was told that they were from cars with bad fuel systems.

They said it was cheaper and quicker to order the tank with fuel system pre installed, and replace the entire tank / fuel system than try to replace parts in the tank.
