The fuel filter is located on the driver's side of the engine. It should look like this

You will have to remove the engine sight shield from the engine-

which is the thing with the oil dipstick going through it. Then remove the bolt that holds the dipstick tube to the intake tube for a little extra clearance (it's tight in there)

Place a suitable receptacle to catch fuel and turn the drain valve on the fuel filter counterclockwise and drain filter assembly. Disconnect the small electrical connector from the fuel filter. This is the water-in-fuel sensor. Then take a large band wrench like this

and turn the fuel filter counterclockwise to remove. Install new o-ring to new filter and reverse the process to install. Remember to swap the fuel drain tube to the new filter.

Also, work with a cool engine so as not to burn yourself on the hot EGR valve and coolant hoses (they're right in front there). Access to the filter is a little restricted so I usually will have my right arm under the intake tube and my left over. It may take a little time, but the $$ you save instead of taking it to a shop is worth it.How to change fuel filter on 2007 6.7 cummins diesel?
Spin off the fuel bowl cap and remove the old filter. When you replace the filter, don't forget to put the new O-ring on! Tighten the cap. Start the engine to create pressure and look for leaks. If no leaks are found, you are good to go and you saved yourself about $75-$100 in the process.
Grab hold of it and screw it off. Fill a new filter with diesel and screw it back on.
